Concept, choreography & performance
One deep breath before we start. Head first and from up above, we dive in. We're not afraid, we're steadfast. We face up to what's coming. We try on different masks. We introduce ourselves.
We're the fish in the stomach of a seal. The unknown reveals itself to us, as we anxiously await our next solid state. Molecule for molecule for molecule. Let go. Let your hair down loose and your body too. Let us build mountains. Let's walk, darkness is setting in. Where's the exit?
Transformation now. Final destination: Snowever.
The Grim Times We Live In examines the fantastic potential of transformation as a way of confronting these grim times – as a solution or counter-principle to stasis and isolation, as a distraction, a form of empowerment, of flight or of ritual reconfiguration. We face our fear, break free from its clutches and dance with it. In this way, the theatrical space – by definition a space for transformation – becomes a model for such transformative processes. As a site that invites imagination and encounters, the theatrical space allows us to reshape the modalities of being, at least for the duration of a piece.
